Bring a Buddy to workout with these 5 helpful tips
It’s no secret that doing exercise is important for a healthy life. But just because we know exercise is good for us, does that make us want to do it?
Finding motivation can be difficult, that’s why we encouraged the ‘buddy system’.
There are countless benefits of exercising with a friend. Not only does it make working out more fun and social, but holds you both accountable for your own success.
We have compiled some ways to help you encourage a friend to be your workout buddy.
Tell them it’s a way you can both hang out
We all have friends who we wish we saw more of, but just can’t seem to fit into our daily schedule. For our own mental wellbeing, it’s extremely important to make time to see our friends. A great way to socialise with friends is to do some exercise together. Going for a walk is an easy way to catch up while also getting your body moving. So suggest it to a friend as an excuse to catch up while fitting in some exercise. It’s a win, win!
Tell them its free
If hanging out isn’t convincing enough for your friend to be your workout buddy, you could emphasis that exercise can be free. Usually when we hang out with friends, we might go to lunch, the movies etc. All of these social excursions can add up. By suggesting that you both join a free local class, or go for a jog together you both can catch up without spending any money. Tell them it’s a way they can be more social
Group classes are a great way to meet new people with likeminded goals. Working out in a group setting makes exercise more fun, social and motivational. Live Life Get Active offers non-intimidating classes designed for people of all ages and fitness levels. By encouraging your friend to join a class with you, you can both be social and meet new people in a welcoming, easy-going environment.
Tell them you can both try two-person exercises
Working out with a friend means that you can try new exercises that involve two people. By exercising together you will be able to motivate and support each other.
Here are some suggestions for exercises you could try as a pair.
Sit up air high-fives
Both persons start by lying down on their back with their knees tucked up. They both sit up, keeping their hands extended and air high-fives towards the other person. Repeat this 20 times.
Plank air high-five
Both persons start by facing each other in a plank position. Hold the plank for 5 seconds, then reach out and air high-five your partner with opposite arms. Try and keep your core engaged and body stable in order to get the most out of this exercise.

Tell them you can celebrate together
Another perk of having a workout buddy is that you can both celebrate your progress and success. Often we overlook our improvements – maybe our running endurance improved or we have gotten stronger in our core. An exercise buddy will give you that outside perspective and be able to monitor your progress.
