Yoga for Busy People

Yoga for Office Workers

When we go to work day in, and day out, we may not realise how much sitting we do at our desks. Unfortunately, our bodies are only too happy to remind us how stiff and sore they can get when we don’t move around all day. But, we’re here to help you with these three simple yoga for office worker poses that can help you gently stretch out those tired muscles for a happier and healthier body.

Wrist and Finger Stretches

Typing away all day can build tension in your wrists and fingers. Doing these simple stretches every two hours will help keep your blood flowing. Start by putting your arms out in front of you or to the side and drawing five or ten circles with your wrists.

Next, spread your fingers out and close them into a fist five times to help get rid of any tension. Finally, put your arms straight out in front of you and gently bend your wrist outward and then inward. Hold these positions for five seconds and relax.

Side Stretches

Your sides tend to tense up when you spend hours bent over a desk working at a computer. This can put stress on your neck and shoulder muscles and lead to pain. This simple stretch lets you straighten your spine.

Push your chair back from your desk and raise your arms over your head. Clasp your hands together and lean to the right. Hold this pose for two or three breaths and do the same thing leaning the other way. Check out our tips on fixing a bad back.

Hamstring Stretch

Your desk can help you gently stretch out those tired back muscles and your spine. Start by getting up and putting your hands shoulder-width apart on your desk’s edge. Step back until your feet are in line with your hips. You should start to feel a gentle pulling on your spine. Hold this position for five or ten seconds.

This simple pose will help to get the blood flowing to your tired back muscles, and the gentle stretching will help to undo all of the bad effects sitting at your desk for hours can do to your body. You can repeat this exercise several times a day, especially if you feel your muscles getting tense.
